This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension.  Sunday is also the Feast day of Mary Help of Christians (May 24), one of the official patrons of Australia since 1844.

The Australian Catholic Bishops decided at their plenary last week that this year as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the lives of Australians, including their worship, that they would entrust the country to the care of Mary Help of Christians on her feast day.  Their motion read:  “That the Australian Bishops entrust Australia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary under the title Our Lady Help of Christians, seeking her intercession for the safety of all our people especially in this time of COVID-19 pandemic.”

Bishop Michael McCarthy will celebrate the two Feasts at Mass this Sunday and has drawn our attention to the Feast of Mary Help of Christians in the letter below.  Also included are the Words of Encouragement from the Catholic Bishops and an Entrustment Prayer Card.
