Meet Morticia Addams!

She is beauty, she is grace, and she will wipe a smile off any face found doing so in her house. Gomez may think he is the head of the house, but nothing goes on in this family without Morticia’s knowing and approval. Year 10 student Shannon Dalley will be bringing this sensational character to life.

What do you love about your character?

I love Morticia’s sense of humour and the way she cares for her family in her own particular way. She is always so loving towards her family and you can tell it’s her top priority and she really embraces it with her quirky outlook on life that is so entertaining.  I love the depth of her character with her intricacies and the more you delve the more you come to grow to love her.

Who has been your inspiration to draw upon for the role?

I watched all the Addams Family films and came across the Broadway production of the show.  I loved Samantha Womack’s interpretation of Morticia because of her elegance and poise and her classy British accent.

How have rehearsal been going?

Rehearsals have been going really well.  Everything is starting to work together, especially now that the band and set pieces have been added. I am very excited for opening night for everyone to see how hard we have worked and what we have produced.

What has been the best part?

All of it – I am grateful for the opportunity! I love performing and having the chance to do that, especially when it is with amazing friends. The cast is very funny, we all get along and everyone is doing amazing work. I am really proud of everyone!

What is your background in performing ?

I’ve been performing for around 9 years now, singing, dancing and acting. I have taken dance lessons since I was 7 years old in Hip Hop, Tap, and Jazz until I was 13.  I also trained in Musical Theatre and Drama and began singing lessons. This year I’m completing my 5th grade AMEB exam.   I’m no stranger to the stage having performed in many musical productions including Rockhampton Musical Union’s Aladdin Jr., Shrek, Elf the Musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and our College’s last production How to succeed in Business Without Really Trying.  I’ve also performed with Opera Queensland in Madame Butterfly, Gondwana Voices, Shep and at Rockhampton Basketball singing the national anthem.

Is this your first big role?

This is definitely my first big role! I am incredibly excited for this musical and I’m proud to play Morticia.

What have taken from this experience?

I think I have grown a lot in my ability to perform. I have focussed on researching my part and getting into character to be the best Morticia I can be.  I’ve also made some great friends along the way, and together we’re producing a wonderful show for people to enjoy.
