Farewelling a well-respected, much admired and long serving staff member always brings mixed emotions and so it is for The Cathedral College (TCC) community as we farewell Mr Ron Armstrong.
Whilst there is a sadness at the departure of a valued member of the TCC family, there is also joy in the knowledge that Ron has prayerfully discerned that now is the right time for him to commence the next stage of his life’s journey.
TCC is the only Diocesan Catholic Boarding School in the Rockhampton Diocese. It offers Boarding for both girls and boys, and this adds a special dimension to the College community.
It is important to recognize this to fully appreciate the significant contribution to life at TCC that Ron Armstrong has made over the past 16 years as Assistant Principal Boarding. The efforts of Ron and his dedicated Boarding team have resulted in a huge growth in boarder numbers at TCC over the past 16 years.
Ron was highly regarded for his faith and values-based leadership by TCC boarders/day students, their parents, leadership colleagues, teaching, support and boarding staff.
Ron was admired for his passionate commitment to providing boarders, both boys and girls, with a safe and caring environment where these young people could grow in faith, knowledge, and wisdom.
Ron always made himself available to speak with the parents of the young people entrusted to the care of TCC Boarding. This assured parents their children were safe and being given the best opportunity to receive a quality, faith-based education that would help them become the people they were meant to be.
Ron will retire from his Assistant Principal Boarding role knowing there are thousands of people making a significant contribution to their local communities who will be forever grateful they had Mr Ron Armstrong as a teacher, a leader, a confidant, a mentor, and a person who was always there for them in the good times and the challenging times.
In addition to his leadership role at TCC, Ron is also an outstanding teacher. He is recognized and respected by colleagues, parents and students as an exemplary teacher who cares about the whole person.
May God continue to richly bless Ron, Maxene and their family today, tomorrow and into the future.
