Hosting the 45th Confraternity Carnival was a show of thanks to Rockhampton for their outstanding support of The Cathedral College, Principal Rob Alexander said.
Mr Alexander described the event as a meaningful opportunity to give back and show appreciation to the local community for its collective and ongoing support of students’ education, growth, and development.
This year’s Carnival was the largest in Confraternity history with fifty-six Boys teams and 16 Girls teams from Catholic and Independent Secondary schools across Queensland descending on the Beef city for a week of the school holidays booking out accommodation, restaurants and eateries across town.
“Over 50 staff members, 200 student volunteers, and many parents and college community members pulled together to care for the 5000 plus visitors,” he said.
“Our wonderful sponsors were also integral to the Carnival’s success, for whom we are very grateful,” he said.
Bishop Michael McCarthy and Diocesan Director of Catholic Education Michael McCusker enjoyed the atmosphere showcasing the brightest talents in Rugby League from schools across the Rockhampton Diocese and all Dioceses in Queensland.
The Carnival also attracted special guests including the Premier of Queensland, the Honourable David Crisafulli and FOGS (Former Origin Greats), Mal Meninga, Wally Lewis and Billy Moore excited to be close to the action again.
Confraternity Carnival is run by the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Rugby League. Next year’s carnival will be hosted by Marist College Ashgrove.
