Junior Oratory Competition

The Art of Oratory is alive at TCC !

A full field of speakers from Year 7, 8 and 9 persuaded listeners with their compelling, intelligent and impassioned presentations at the Junior Oratory Competition this week.

Our students showcased their critical thinking, research and public speaking skills through a series of persuasive presentations on important contemporary issues.

Year 7 students explored sustainability, developing initiatives to encourage greater environmental responsibility within The Cathedral College and the wider community.

Year 7 winner Maya addressed the growing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and proposed ways TCC can help combat this issue. Runner up Griff focused on the impact of plastic stationery, highlighting how everyday choices can affect environments as significant as the Great Barrier Reef.

Year 8 students prepared and delivered persuasive speeches on social issues and opportunities related to technology that are relevant to young Australians. First place getter Alexander warned us about the dangers of misinformation in social media, while Ambrose explored the benefits of gaming.

Year 9 students examined contentious issues affecting young people in Australia and proposed thoughtful solutions. Top Year 9 speaker Flynn explored wealth disparity in education and its impact on student opportunities whilst silver winner Lily-Belle advocated for greater kindness in schools, encouraging positive and supportive school communities.

Congratulations to all students for their thoughtful research, confidence and passion in presenting ideas that inspire positive change in our school and beyond.
